While planning a May trip to Busan, I came across a festival that immediately caught my attention.
The Busan Mil Festival (부산 밀 페스티벌). “Mil (밀)” means wheat in Korean — and this is a large-scale food festival built around wheat-based cuisine. For 2026, it runs for two days: May 9 (Sat) and May 10 (Sun), at Hwamyeong Ecological Park (화명생태공원).
It sits a little off the main tourist trail compared to Haeundae or Nampo-dong, but that’s exactly what makes it interesting. Set along the Nakdong River, this is a predominantly local event — ideal if you’re looking for an authentic Busan festival experience beyond the usual spots.
🌾 2026 Theme: “Miltopia Kingdom”
This year’s theme is “밀토피아 왕국 (Miltopia Kingdom)” — a wheat kingdom concept that blends immersive world-building with a food festival. Expect costumed characters, interactive games, and photo-worthy spots alongside the food.
The food lineup is wide-ranging: pasta, pizza, kalguksu (Korean wheat noodles), bakery goods, sweets, craft beer, and Korean liquor. It’s a food market format featuring popular local restaurants and brands, with an expected turnout of around 30,000 visitors across the two days. QR code ordering and payment is also available, which is handy if your Korean isn’t fluent.
🌙 Pairing Night — Evening Entertainment for Adults
During the day, the festival works well for families and groups of friends. But come evening, the atmosphere shifts.
From 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the event transforms into a “Pairing Night” — a night market format pairing craft beer, whiskey, and live music performances with food. It’s a genuine two-in-one: enjoy the food stalls and activities during the day, then stay on for the evening. If you’re spending two or more nights in Busan, it’s worth building into your schedule.
📍 Venue & Getting There
Hwamyeong Ecological Park (화명생태공원)
A large natural park stretching along the Nakdong River.
- Access: Subway Line 2 to Hwamyeong Station (화명역), Exit 1 — approx. 13 minutes on foot
Because it’s away from the main tourist areas, the crowd skews local — which makes it a great spot to experience the Busan that Koreans themselves enjoy.
